Galway City - SalthillGalway City and it's suburbs comprise a prosperous and lively city of just over seventy thousand inhabitants. Nestled between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay it's suburbs include Renmore & Salthill. Connemara & the Aran IslandsThis part of Galway is undoubtedly the most beautiful part of the county and perhaps one of Ireland's most treasured natural resources. The town of Clifden, the unofficial capital of Connemara located in the heart of Connemara is located between the Maumturk Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Other towns and villages in Connemara include Letterfrack, Oughterard, Roundstone, Spiddal, Leenane and Carna. The three islands, Inishmor, Inishmaan, and Iniseer, which make up the Aran Islands are some 15km off the coast of Galway, in the Atlantic Ocean. The main village on Inishmor is Kilronan. The islands are linked to the mainland by ferry and air services. East GalwayThe area east of lough Corrib and Galway City make up East Galway. This part of the county has less of a maritime tradition and is quite different to the rest of the county. Principal towns and villages include Oranmore, Athenry, Tuam, Ballinasloe, Loughrea, Gort and Portumna. | ||||||
